Office has a separate application for running updates. Find it and run it. I can’t remember where exactly they put it, but I know some versions squirreled it away in weird places. Look for AutoUpdater or MAU and run it until there’s nothing left to update. I think 2008 may also have that in the System Preferences.

The error message indicates that the frameworks file that was installed with Office is not in the location where Office expected to find it. Perhaps you moved or accidentally deleted all or parts of Microsoft Office.

Go into the Applications folder and then into the Microsoft Office 2008 folder. In the Office folder look for Remove Office. In the Remove Office folder there’s a Remove Office utility. Run it, and then restart your computer. Empty the trash, then install Office from the DVD. Let the updates install and things should go back to normal.
